Thanks to the innovative, digital guest guide pickablue®, Boppard's history comes alive. Long-dead personalities and buildings have their say and reveal their secrets. Boppard's Views – with views and flashbacks to Boppard's past. The new trail, approved by the German Hiking Institute with ... is only the third city hiking trail in Germany. And it is truly a hiking trail. While you can stroll along the Rhine promenade and wander through the medieval alleys, the climb up the Stations Trail and the passages to the various viewpoints above Boppard also require a bit of fitness and hiking experience. The Boppard City Hiking Trail combines culture with nature – urban history with the enjoyment of nature and spectacular views of the Upper Middle Rhine Valley World Heritage Site. Starting at the Carmelite building, you're immediately immersed in the town's medieval history, only to be confronted shortly thereafter with Roman history.

Thanks to the innovative, digital tour guide pickablue®, the medieval stained glass windows at the Carmelite Church are visualized. These have not been on display in Boppard for 200 years, but are now housed at The Met Cloisters in New York.

A similar story later applies to the early Christian baptismal font hidden beneath the floor of St. Severus Church. Pickablue ® brings Boppard's history and stories to life at a total of 35 points. Visuals and animations are used, but long-dead figures and buildings also speak and reveal their secrets.

But even without the pickablue ® digital guide, the city hiking trail offers plenty of variety. The Rhine riverside promenade, medieval alleys, Roman relics, centuries-old linden trees, a ginkgo planted in the presence of the Prussian king, a Marienberg Park resembling a spa garden and reminiscent of an arboretum, and a historic Way of the Cross or Stations of the Cross enrich the hike through and above Boppard. In addition to the urban center of Boppard, the rural idyll of Boppard is also not neglected: Once you reach the heights, you wander through ancient beech forests and pass horse and donkey paddocks. At the very end, you reach the unique Rhine promenade again and, with an ever-changing view of the city skyline, slowly return to the starting point, where hikers bid farewell to the city hiking trail's logo, the Boppard Runner by artist Aloys Rump. The digital tour guide, a PWA (progressive web app), operates on the pickablue.de digital system.
